Students Protest Over Colleagues’ Deaths –Give Gov’t. One Month To Investigate

By Bill W. Cooper
The “March For Justice” comprising more than 50 youth organizations yesterday protested before the Liberia National Police (LNP) headquarter in Monrovia over the death of their colleagues Linda Z. Sherman, Omuru Kamara, Luncier and the reopening of the late Odell P. Sherman case within ä period of one month or else receive unending protest until justice can be serve.
Due to the huge flock of students from different schools including the late Linda Z. Sherman’s school, St. Theresa Convent and were seen in all black suits as well as siting on the ground. Some of them were seen holding placards with the inscriptions; “President Weah, we need action, Please investigate our colleagues death and they too could be your daughter,” among others.
The student’s action was triggered by recent statement emanating from the police spokesperson, Moses Carter, who informed the public that Linda Z. Sherman alias Zotta died as a result of suicide, without any investigation to substantiate his claims.
Recently, the late Linda Z. Sherman alias Zotta, who was at the age of 9 years and students from the S. Theresa Covent was found dead in the bed-room of her mother in the Soniwein community.
Some community dwellers classified her death as suicide but others who viewed the body expressed skepticism, claiming that from the appearance of the body which was not hidden, it was wrong to describe the situation as suicide..
Reading the petition on behalf of the group, the Liberia National Students Union (LINSU) vice-president, Vickjune Wutsh said they believe that the Liberia National police (LNP) is causing the children of Liberia more harms like in the days of the country bloodiest civil war.
Vickjune Wutsh noted that the LNP or government under President Weah continues to leave them in sleepless nights of horrors and utter disregard to protecting women and girl’s right, emphasizing that the government has failed to understand that women rights are human rights.
She said the LNP should pursue a prime suspect who is linked to the death of Linda Z. Sherman and other Liberian children who cases are similar to hers, noting that the parents of both children, especially Linda Z. Sherman are thoroughly investigated to apprehend the criminals of said major murder crimes.
“We as students call on the Independent Human Rights Commission, United States Embassy and other international resident groups in the country to assist the LNP through its investigation to bring this case to a logical conclusion and that the government should declare a national emergency on the mysterious deaths of Linda Z. Sherman, Omuru kamara and Lunrencier, the LINSU Veep said.
Receiving the petition, the LNP Deputy Inspector General for Crime Services, Prince Mulbah lauded the students for peacefully presenting their petition to the government through the LNP and promised to look into their demands enshrined in their petition.
