The administration of the Nathan E. Gibson High School has officially responded to recent allegations regarding a teacher’s involvement in the tragic death of a student, clarifying that the individual in question is not employed by the institution.
The school’s administration through its Supervisor, Momo B. Kamara, admitted that Stephen Jackson, the individual named in the reports, is a computer teacher but is employed by a company contracted by the school to provide IT services.
However, the denial follows a tragic incident where a 17-year-old girl, who died from organ failure, was allegedly raped by Jackson and met her untimely death after attempting to do abortion.
Addressing a team of reporters yesterday, May 8, 2025, Mr. Kamara expressed sorrow over the situation, noting that the teacher in question is not part of their staff and that he offered condolences to the grieving family and the school community.
He lamented, “It is just so unfortunate that such a situation occurred, and this is the first of its kind for this institution to be linked to a situation like this. Stephen Jackson is not employed by our school. He is not on our payroll.”
“This individual in question is employed by an IT company we hired, and it is important that we clarify that the individual mentioned in connection with these rumors is not, and has never been, a member of our teaching staff,” he maintained.
Mr. Kamara, at the same time, urged the community and media to refrain from spreading unverified information that could further exacerbate the pain of the decease’s family and friends and the student’s body as a whole.
He added, “Again, we understand that in times of tragedy, emotions run high, and people seek answers.
However, we must rely on facts and not speculation, and I urge all to verify their information before publication.”
“Because this could affect the already heartbroken family, friends and loved ones, including our other students and their parents. This could also hinder our institution’s hard-earned reputation, which we have built over the years,” he added.
Meanwhile, the school has also pledged to support the victim’s family through their time of bereavement, coupled with the provision of counselling services to students who may be struggling with grief.
Mr. Kamara, at the same time, vowed to work and collaborate with the Liberia National Police (LNP), ensuring that the alleged perpetrator, who is currently on the run, is made to face justice for his crime under the Laws of Liberia.
He added, “We are committed to ensuring that our students are protected moving forward from any future recurrence.
As the family seek answers, we also stand firm in our commitment to transparency and supporting their endeavour throughout this time of bereavement.”
“Again, we are urging everyone, including the media, to come together in remembrance of our late student, a bright star whose light was extinguished far too soon, by supporting the family through whatever means possible and the police to give her justice,” he added.
