The newly elected governor of the Borough of New Kru Town in District 16 has raised concerns over the state of the borough’s finances, alleging that he took office to find the account empty.
Governor Teah, who recently assumed office, stated that the outgoing governor, Moses Doe Weah, had claimed to leave L$56,000 in the account.
Contrary to such claim, Teah has reported that the account is completely devoid of funds.
“We are starting afresh and are pleading with the national government through the national legislature to assist us in order to effectively lead our people,” Teah said in a statement.
Teah outlined several immediate priorities for his tenure, including addressing the borough’s sanitation issues.
He described the current state of waste management as “a serious problem” and vowed to take a proactive approach.
“The entire borough is very dirty, so we need to engage seriously with the sanitation issue. We will create awareness in the communities to clean up the borough,” he emphasized.
Another key focus for Teah is fostering reconciliation between New Kru Town and Saint Paul Bridge, aiming to unite them into a single borough and district.
He announced plans for a reconciliation program that will invite various stakeholders, dignitaries, and partners to participate in the effort.
“We need cooperation and support among ourselves, elders, and young people. I came to serve, not to be a boss, so we can all work together for the development of the borough,” Teah stated.
Teah was warmly welcomed and honored by the local motorcyclist union, who praised his dedication and pledged their unflinching support throughout his term.
Governor Teah expressed his gratitude to President Boakai and the residents of New Kru Town for their support and participation.
“Together, we can make New Kru Town great and peaceful once again. God bless the people of the borough and Liberia,” he concluded.
