“Supreme Court’s Ruling Has Resolved This Matter’ -Says Speaker Koffa; But Will He Resign?

The embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fonati Koffa, has publicly addressed growing speculations about his position in the wake of recent political developments, affirming his respect for the rule of law and initiating talks on a potential transition from the speakership.
In a statement released Wednesday on his Facebook page, Speaker Koffa acknowledged the widespread public concerns and speculations circulating on social and traditional media regarding him as Speaker. “While I am deeply touched by the outpouring of concern for my personal well-being and the integrity of the office I hold. I wish to address these matters with clarity and transparency,”he stated.
Koffa emphasized that the Supreme Court’s recent decision widely seen as a pivotal moment in resolving the impasse within the legislature has brought legal clarity to the situation.
“The Supreme Court’s recent ruling has definitively resolved this matter, and I fully respect and uphold its decision,” he said.
Speaker Koffa revealed that he is now engaging with legislative colleagues and national stakeholders to discuss the appropriate next steps, including a possible transition from the speakership.
“I am actively engaging in consultations with stakeholders across the country to determine the appropriate path forward, promising to keep the public informed throughout the process,” he confirmed.
He concluded with a call for calm and unity, urging Liberians to avoid spreading unverified claims that could deepen divisions.
He said, “I urge all citizens to refrain from amplifying unsubstantiated claims that risk fostering unnecessary confusion or division.”
