The CDC Islamic Affairs has reaffirmed its support for the re-election of President George Weah.
Reading the petition statement on behalf of the group Monday, September 18, 2023, at the headquarters of the Coalition for Democratic Change, Oumu Sall outlined several reasons for their reaffirmation.
She recounted that in 2018 when the President took office, things were tough and shaking but accordingly, the Liberian leader strives to the core to keep the country on the right path through economic stability, peace, and prosperity.
“The President is a leader that has always worked to make Liberia a great nation, and in view of the aforementioned, we wish to throw light on some of the developments of our astute President,” she added.
The group named the building of modern market structures across the country, construction of 332 kilometers of roads, free tuition policy at all public universities, payment of WASSCE fees for 12th graders, and religious tolerance in his government, among others.
“Mr. President, today is a clear manifestation that Muslims are appreciative of the work you are doing. We seek the blessing of the Almighty Allah to give you the strength and long life to keep bringing development to the Liberian people,” the endorsement statement averred.
The group also thanked the Liberian leader for providing the Muslim Community food, cash and animal gifts during Ramadan and Abraham Days, sponsoring of less fortunate Muslims to attend the Hajj in Saudi Arabia (Mecca), among others.
In remarks, the Secretary General of the CDC, Jefferson Tamba Koijee, thanked the group for their reaffirmation.
According to him, the decision demonstrates that the Liberian people know who they want in the ensuing October 10, 2023 Elections.
He termed the Muslim citizens as people of gratitude, adding that the Coalition for Democratic Change is glad to receive another reaffirmation for the re-election of the party’s Standard Bearer.
At the same time, Mr. Koijee, who is also Monrovia City Mayor, intoned that the Liberian people are in high gear to maintain the peace and stability of the country. “We have come together to keep this peace and nobody has the audacity to take us back to those terrible days,” he added.
Receiving the petition statement on behalf of President George Weah, Minister of State, Wesseh Blamoh, said he is not surprised at the decision taken.
While promising to deliver the statement to the Liberian leader, Minister Blamoh further thanked the Muslim community for being farsighted in reposing their confidence in President Weah for his second term bid.
