The National Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Commission (NWASHC) has taken decisive action against the Bravo Mineral Water, ordering its immediate closure for providing unsafe water to the public.
Bravo Mineral Water’s closure is part of NWASHC’s broader mandate to regulate water and sanitation services in Liberia.
On Wednesday, December 4, NWASHC’s Inspector General Barbara Gibson revealed on OK FM that, their inspection team discovered Bravo Mineral Water failed to meet the sanitation standards necessary for safe water production for public health in the country.
According to her, there have been numerous public complaints regarding the safety of Bravo water. Upon testing it, it was discovered that the water contains high levels of bacteria, making it unsafe for public consumption.
“This is the third time we are shutting this company down,” she stated. “If you check the water bottle, you will notice a baby photo on it. Many mothers have used this product for their babies, claiming it is good for infants.”
“If babies and others are drinking this unsafe water, it could lead to an increase in diarrhea and cholera cases, as the water is not suitable for consumption,” Gibson stressed.
“The commission is collaborating with the company to ensure the removal of all Bravo Mineral Water from stores, supermarkets, shops, pharmacies, and other points of sale. Distributors and vendors are urged to comply with this directive to prevent any further harm,” she mentioned.
She noted that the decision followed a thorough investigation by the commission, which uncovered significant violations of health and safety regulations.
“We are from the WASH Commission, and our responsibility is to ensure that the water the public consumes is safe,” she added. She further stated that Bravo will remain closed until the investigation is concluded.
Meanwhile, consumers have been advised to stop using Bravo Mineral Water and to report outlets still selling the product adding, “We urge the public to cooperate to ensure these unsafe products are completely removed from circulation.”
