Another batch of Liberian soldiers are expected to be deployed in Mali in September for one year as part of the African Union Force of the United Nations Mission.
This followed a rehearsal of a platoon of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) on Wednesday, August 7 held at Camp Sandee Ware in Careysburg, lower Montserrado County ahead of schedule.
The soldiers displayed their preparedness which was witnessed by score of diplomats like the British High Commissioner, David Belgrove; and Hugh Nagy, Charge D’Affaires of the French Embassy accredited to Liberia and many others.
Both diplomats expressed satisfaction of Liberia’s readiness for the task ahead in the mission area (Mali).
Commissioner Belgroug then rekindled Liberia’s meaningful contribution to peacekeeping operations of the United Nations among the comity of nations.
For the French who have had experience in Mali, said they are impressed with the soldiers’ rehearsal programme in readiness to serving in Mali.
Charge D’Affaires, Nagy said Mali is a hostile zone, therefore, one must be fully prepared and ready to execute the mandate ahead like others before them.
Earlier, General Prince C. Johnson, III, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL)upbeat about his men preparedness.
He stated that his men are ready to perform like what their colleagues before them did or others are doing in the mission area.
Johnson said the deployment is done annually and this is Liberia’s 6 times in 6 years and it has been so successful for the country.
In similar comment, Tibili Olando Dixon, Deputy Minister of Defence for Administration, expressed his satisfaction with the soldiers who are in high spirit after the refresher training.
Dixon, who is a career solider like others, has had worth of experiences in peace mission worldwide. He believes that the Liberian contingent will do likewise their colleagues in the mission area.
For the trainers, Major Couvrer Vianney, of the French Military Detachment; and Captain Charles Gale, Officer-In-Charge of the British Military Detachment, expressed their happiness with the soldiers’ readiness.
They indicated that the platoon was taken through the drilled of Improvise Ordinate Explosive (IOE) and Explosive Ordinate Device (EOD) and many more are some of the tactics or weapons used by the Islamic jihadists in particular in Mali and the Sahel in general.
