SThe Liberian Senate yesterday bided farewell to its co-chairperson on Ways, Means and Finance, Senator Edward Boakai Dagoseh from Grand Cape County. Senator Dagoseh was pronounced dead recently at the JFK referral Hospital following a long period of illness.
Paying tribute on behalf of the Liberian Senate in the Rotunda of the Legislature on Thursday, Senate Pro-Temp, Albert T Chie described his fallen colleague as an academician that has been lost to death.
“As a Senate, we are here today to bid our friend, our dear colleague, an eminent citizen of our land, farewell as he begins his journey back to our creator and this reminds us once more that we are all dust and to dust we shall return,” he lamented.
Pro-temp Chie said the late Senator was a sociable and very innovative person that was willing to share his knowledge with colleagues adding, “He was a quiet person, yet a man who understood the rudiments of politics and exhibited high exuberance in debating national agenda.”
He said the best remembrance of the late Senator is that, “He always thought on issues very thoroughly before casting a vote and that he never voted on issues according to the dictates of any political organization or institution he belonged to; but according to his own understanding of matter and the dictates of his conscience.”
He said the Liberian Senate has lost a strong lawmaker, an astute professor emeritus for Accounting and Finance and a dedicated family person, a man whose passing he described as irreparable.
“No matter the depth of tragedies or pains we face and no matter how death stalks us and our loved ones, the resurrection promises us a future of immeasurable good; we shall see him again on that day,” Senator Chie mourned.
“He lived his life. He demonstrated love and concern for all people and his approach to issues that affected someone else was inspiring and genuine. This was a lesson from him that life is all about helping someone in need as we travel along our respective high-way while we tarry on earth,” he eulogized the deceased.
Meanwhile, Dagoseh who died at the Kingdom Care Hospital in Paynesville, Monrovia on June 1, will be taken to the Providence Baptist Church today for funeral rites and thereafter taken to Grand Cape Mount County for interment.
The late senator was among five senators suspended on April 2 by the former ruling Unity Party following their affirmative votes for the impeachment of former Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh.
On June 26, the National Executive Committee reached a decision to lift the suspension and reinstate all of its lawmakers even though political observers see it as a suspension lifted in death and therefore adds no value to the decision.
