The items will also enhance blood safety services, improve maternal and newborn care at the community level, and build the country’s capacity to provide critical support for youth battling substance use disorders.

Officially turning over the supplies, WHO Country Representative to Liberia, Dr. Peter Clement,  reaffirmed WHO’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s health sector.

This, he said, “These supplies cover several critical categories, including blood transmission programs, refrigeration equipment, and other essential medical consumables.”

“So, strengthening health security is crucial, and we hope this donation contributes meaningfully to the ministry’s efforts in addressing the country’s healthcare challenges,” the WHO Rep. noted.

Dr. Clement added that the WHO will continue to work with MOH and other government’s health institutions to strengthen Liberia’s healthcare service delivery, ensuring that citizens receive quality medical care.

Receiving the items on behalf of the government, Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Catherine Cooper expressed gratitude for WHO’s continued support in improving the country’s healthcare system.

She acknowledged, “So, on behalf of the Minister of Health, we extend our heartfelt thanks to WHO for these essential medical supplies.”

“Because these resources will directly impact our healthcare programs and service delivery areas, ensuring that they are used for their intended purpose.

Now that Liberia has declared drug and substance abuse as a national emergency, addressing such an emergency requires adequate supplies as such, this donation will significantly support our efforts in tackling this crisis,” she added.

Dr. Cooper further emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between MoH and WHO to improve healthcare services nationwide, pledging the government’s continuous collaboration  with the MOH.
