VP Taylor Challenges Yekeh

By Bill W. Cooper
District 10 in Montserrado continues to be a base of serious controversy and contentions by members of the ruling party, the CDC, since the National Elections Commission released its timetable for the ensuing elections and with incumbent Representative Yekeh Kolubah’s intention to re-contest.
Yekeh who remains a very controversial lawmaker in the district has been encountered by even officials of the CDC which have resulted into bitter claims and counterclaims as well as riots thereby making the center of this attraction the home of the Legislature, a political seat of almost all of the contenders.
Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor on Thursday, May 18, 2023 sharply responded to a threat from Rep. Kolubah warning her to desist from interfering and to stay out of District 10 politics.
VP Taylor speaking to employees calling themselves “Majority Legislative Staffers” in support of President George Weah’s reelection expressed disappointment at the Representative’s comments and reiterated her commitment to working for the betterment of the district.
She said, “Honorable Yekeh Kolubah, and Mr. Speaker, I’m calling his name because he had press conference and mentioned my name there; I will begin touring District 10 soon and it will be army to army where people will come see who is who because I’m not afraid of you.”
However, the VP strong worded statement comes after Rep. Kolubah, who represents District 10 threatened to ‘go dirty’ on if she keeps meddling in District 10 politics and refuses to listen and do the needful.
VP Taylor is a strong supporter of former Commerce Inspector General, Josephine Davies who declared her intention to contest the district seat to unseat Rep. Kolubah over what she described as his failure to adequately represent constituents of the District.
Rep. Kolubah also accused the NPP standard bearer of financially supporting aspirant Josephine Davies for the upcoming elections, thereby mentioning the recent endorsement of Madam Davies by the National Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said while it is the VP’s right to support any candidate, he will not hesitate to return ‘fire for fire’, stressing, “So, I’m calling on our mother, Chief Jewel Howard Taylor, not to get involved with District 10 politics.”
“Because I believe in dirty politics. You sit down in your house with Josephine Davis and decide to give her money to campaign against me. That’s your right, but if u get involved with dirty politics I will drag you in the mod with no regret,” he cautioned.
But in response, VP Taylor questioned the District lawmaker working since his ascendancy as lawmaker of the district, and asked, “What have him done over the six years of your leadership? Do you have a plan for District 10 that we should reelect him?
“He should not even bring it to me because I coming and will be in District 10 live and the good thing about it is that it is the District that I’m living in. So, we, residents of the District will correct the mistake we make in 2017 soon because no ma curse representative will be reelected,” she said.
According to her, the job of a lawmaker is not to stand in open plenary or sit on the radio and rain insults on the Presidency or his follow government officials but to instead adequately represent his/her constituents through lawmaking, oversight and representation.
She maintained, “Cursing the President is not the function of a lawmaker because he doesn’t work in the Legislature; so what the curse doing to this district? But again, District 10 got to do something because they will get nothing in that district until they change the lawmaker and me I living there so we will deal with.”
