The Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Dr. Jewel Howard Taylor and the newly elected Senator of Montserrado County, Senator Darious Dillon and others over the weekend, identified with the parents of the 26 students and one teacher who recently died in a tragic fire incident in the Bassa Community in Red-Light.
It can be recalled that recently, fire gutted an Islamic School known as Quranic Memorization Center, killing 26 students and one instructor in an area known as Bassa Town near the Redlight Market in Paynesville.
Expressing her condolence to hundreds of Muslims at the United Dawaumma 17th Street Mosque observing a three-day sacrifice for the 27 deaths and VP Taylor expressed her regrets over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families and the Muslim community at large.
She described the incident as unfortunate, pitiful and dreadful the fire incident that has befallen the nation, stressing that it is totally distressing and unfortunate that we lost this high number of innocent citizens.
She then presented a cash donation of US$1,000 to assist with activities surrounding the Islamic burial tradition for the 27 victims.
In remarks, Senator Dillon also expressed his condolence to the families and said that he welcomed the statement made by the President to rehabilitate the damaged center, stating that as a Senator of the county, it is his responsibility to ensure it happens.
In a related development, the Ambassador of Guinea, Elhadj Abdoulaye Dore also presented a cash of US$ 1,000 on behalf of his country, while at the same time expressed his government’s condolence to the Muslim community, stressing that his country indeed regrets the unfortunate incident and are in sympathy with the country and the Muslim community at large.
