The Liberia National Police(LNP) are investigating the death of a two-year-old child who was discovered in Zone 4B, Pleebo City, Maryland County.
During the morning hours of Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Crime Services Division (CSD) of the Liberia National Police, Pleebo Detachment, along with a team of medical practitioners, was informed about a lifeless body found in a pit in the Zone 4B community of Pleebo City, Maryland.
Family sources informed The Inquirer that on May 6, 2025, the deceased, Theo Doe, was left in the care of Esther Doe but was reportedly deceived by a little boy identified as Daniel Freeman, who said he was asked to take Theo to his grandmother since both parents were out for their daily activities.
According to reports, the family realized that the little boy, Daniel Freeman—commonly known as “Dess”—allegedly lied to Esther Doe, the child’s caretaker, claiming that the grandmother had asked him to bring the child for a visit.
Furthermore, the grandmother of the deceased, Madam Mamie Toe, stated that she had gone to her farm and, upon returning, was met with the news of her grandson Theo Doe reportedly missing.
This prompted her and the caretaker to reach out to a local radio station to inform the public about the missing child.
Madam Toe added that she was informed of Theo’s disappearance during the evening hours of Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at about 4 p.m.
She spent the entire night searching for the child but was shocked by what happened next.
She said that on the following day, while the search continued, a community member—whose name she could not recall—suggested they search around abandoned pits or wells, as that might lead to a breakthrough.
Meanwhile, community dwellers have expressed disappointment over the incident, describing it as suspicious.
They questioned how a dead body found in a pit containing water showed no signs of drowning.
One resident remarked, “I have seen dead bodies pulled from water. They usually have swollen stomachs or foam coming from their noses. I believe something might have happened,” the source lamented.
Nevertheless, the medical team that retrieved the body established a 15-man coroner jury, which concluded that there was no foul play in the death of the deceased, Theo Doe.
