The Supreme Court has officially scheduled April 23, 2025, at 12:00 noon, to deliver its long-awaited ruling in the high-profile Bill of Information filed by embattled House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and members of the 55th Legislature.

The notice of assignment, issued under the authority of Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh, comes as tensions continue over a bitter leadership dispute within the House of Representatives.

The case pits embattled Speaker Koffa and his loyalists referred to in the case as Informants against majority block speaker Richard Koon, who has been declared the Purported Speaker by a rival faction known as the Self-Styled Majority Bloc.

Also named in the case are Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah and other members of the bloc, with the Minister of Justice and Attorney General representing the government in the matter.

The Bill of Information was filed following what Koffa and his supporters describe as a constitutional crisis triggered by attempts to unseat him and install an alternative leadership within the House.

The Supreme Court’s panel for this March Term includes: Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh, Associate Justice Jamesetta H. Wolokollie, Associate Justice Yussif D. Kaba, Associate Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, and Associate Justice Ceaineh D. Clinton-Johnson

The outcome of this ruling is expected to have significant political implications, not only for the leadership structure of the House but also for the broader functioning of Liberia’s governance system.

All parties and their legal representatives have been officially cited to appear at the Temple of Justice for the reading of the opinion, as confirmed in the Supreme Court’s directive to Brigadier General Amos B. Kesseh Dickson Marshal of the Court.

As the nation watches closely, the verdict could either restore the status quo or legitimize the rival faction’s claim to power in the House of Representatives.
