The Chairperson of the Starz University Board, Latim Da-Thong, has called on the institution’s graduating classes to use their academic achievements, innovation, and commitment to excellence to transform their lives, communities, and the world.
Speaking at the commencement convocation held on November 26, 2024, in Monrovia, Ambassador Da-Thong, founder 7th Bachelor’s class and 1st Master’s class of the technical university, addressed the 183 candidates for the Bachelor’s degree and 17 for Master’s degree comprising of the university’s 7th graduating classes to contribute to Liberia’s progress.
“Liberia needs you to drive its progress. Success is not just about personal achievements; it’s about the positive impacts you make in the lives of others,”he stated.
Ambassador Da-Thong, also a former Deputy Minister of Education for Administration, expressed pride in the graduates as a legacy of Starz University.
He reminded them of their role as ambassadors of the institution, upholding its core values of innovation, excellence, and service to others.
“This is only the beginning of your journey, and we are excited to see all the incredible things you will accomplish,” he said, encouraging them to dream big, work hard, and seize every opportunity.
Ambassador Da-Thong announced the launch of a Bachelor of Science (BSc) program in Cybersecurity, set to begin in early 2025.
This initiative underscores Starz University’s commitment to adapting to technological advancements and addressing the global demand for cybersecurity professionals.
Formally launched in September 2024, the program aims to train experts to safeguard digital infrastructures locally and globally.
The launch event was attended by stakeholders from the National Commission on Higher Education, the Liberia National Police, the Liberia Revenue Authority, and the Central Bank of Liberia.
“With this initiative, we aim to train the next generation of cybersecurity experts,” Ambassador Da-Thong remarked.
The founder also highlighted Starz University’s tradition of sending two outstanding students abroad annually for further studies. This initiative, he noted, enhances graduates’ skills and broadens their global perspectives, enabling them to make more significant contributions to Liberia’s development.
“Starz has always been a place where innovation thrives, where the dreams of young Liberians are fulfilled. We are a center for creativity and excellence,” he said.
Ambassador Da-Thong described the 2024 ceremony as historic, marking the graduation of the institution’s first Master’s Class.
He emphasized that this milestone reflects Starz University’s mission to provide world-class education and create opportunities for young Liberians.
In his motivational message, he reminded graduates that their achievements were earned through hard work, resilience, and sacrifice. “This moment is yours, you’ve earned it, and no one can take that from you,” he stated.
The event underscored Starz University’s ongoing commitment to shaping Liberia’s future by nurturing leaders equipped with critical thinking, creativity, and a commitment to excellence.
“We are proud to call you graduates of Starz University. May you go forward with confidence, knowing that you are well-prepared for the future,” Ambassador Da-Thong concluded.
