The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has received a huge donation from the SOS Children’s Village, aimed at supporting the “Support A Child, Save The Future” project designed to assist children living in street situations across the country.
Items donated include mattresses, children’s beds, a generator, a refrigerator, and a living room set, among others, marking a crucial contribution to the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to provide shelter, care, and services to children who find themselves living on the streets.
SOS Children’s Village, a leading international organization focused on child welfare, has been working closely with the Government for many years, providing both financial and logistical support to projects aimed at protecting children’s rights and well-being.
However, this new donation is part of their continued partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in addressing the needs of Liberia’s most vulnerable children, especially those in the street.
The “Support A Child, Save The Future” project, launched by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, aims to provide safe spaces, education, healthcare, and rehabilitation for children living on the streets.
The donation from SOS Children’s Village will add to what is already being received by the Ministry, thus helping to improve the living conditions at care centres and provide much-needed resources for the children involved in the program.
During the presentation at the SOS Children’s Village offices in Sinkor-Airfield, several pieces of assorted furniture and equipment were officially turned over to the Ministry, with a pledge to contribute more towards the initiative.
The institution further promised to continue its partnership with the project as long as it remains a source of hope for children in street situations, giving them a better future and the life they desire.
The organization further reassured its commitment to supporting the Ministry’s initiatives, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in creating a better future for Liberia’s most vulnerable children.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Ministry, Deputy Minister for Children and Social Protection, Garmai Tokpah expressed her appreciation for the timely support, which she said could not have come at a better time than now.
“This donation is a critical boost to our efforts to improve the lives of children in street situations. So, the contribution from SOS Children’s Village will go a long way in enhancing the facilities and services provided to these vulnerable children,” he noted.
Deputy Minister Tokpah also praised SOS Children’s Village for being a longstanding and dedicated partner in the effort to support street children, thus reiterating the government’s commitment to ensuring that the donation is used effectively for its intended purpose.
She added, “Again, the Government, through the Ministry, is fully committed to ensuring that this donation is utilized to improve the living conditions and future prospects of children in street situations.” Meanwhile, with the support of partners like SOS Children’s Village, the Government of Liberia remains determined to tackle the challenges faced by street children and ensure they have the opportunities to thrive and build brighter futures.
