Several passengers yesterday sustained serious injuries with one under critical condition on a 32-seater bus that involved in an accident around the Slipway area in Monrovia.
The situation that brought serious panic to commuters happened around 4:30 P.M and later caused serious traffic jam making it rather impossible for vehicles to ply the street.
One of the passengers who was on the bus, Ezekiel Sokan told this paper that upon the completion of the loading of the bus, they were informed that the main drive had gone to pray, at which time the carboy ventured to drive the bus to their various destinations.
Ezekiel added that while approaching the Slipway, the carboy lost control due to break failure and later found themselves in the valley as the carboy later ran-away out of fear.
Another was William Chae buttressing Ezekiel said that he was informed by some of the passengers that the bus driver had gone to pray upon which time the carboy took over and decided to drive them but only to realize, they were already dumped in a valley.
According to one eye witness who was on the scene, Chris Kamara explained that while sitting at her shop, it was when she saw the bus had already lost control and swerved off the road into a valley. She said they saw smoke oozing from the bus, adding, “It was through that process, I hurriedly went to the bus and began pulling out some of the occupants of the bus. Thank God nobody died in the process but some received wounds and one was taken to MAWA Clinic for treatment due to his condition.”
Meanwhile, several eyewitnesses in a tete-a-tete stated that the accident is not the first of its kind as many other serious and terrible accidents had also occurred on the Slipway Road and that government needs to urgently do something in order to avoid recurrence.
