Senator Albert Chie has officially broken grounds for the construction of a modern City Hall in Behwan City, Grand Kru County. The US$155,000 project is expected to serve as a multipurpose facility for local government operations and community engagement.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on March 13, 2025, County Development Officer Joe Sekpeh, representing Senator Chie, described the initiative as a long-overdue development for the city. He noted that the infrastructure will provide office space for appointed local government officials in Trenh Statutory District and facilitate essential governance activities.
“The citizens have been waiting for this development since Behwan was granted city status,” Mr. Sekpeh said, emphasizing that the hall will serve as a hub for meetings, dialogues, and discussions on governance and community affairs.
Joe Sekpeh also revealed that several government ministries have expressed interest in securing office space within the facility once completed.
He urged local leaders in Trenh Statutory District to maintain peace as the project progresses.
He further stated that all legislative projects under the leadership of President Joseph Boakai would be supervised by appointed officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Public Works to ensure proper implementation.
Oliver F. Fallah, General Manager of Marine Construction Company Inc., Liberia, confirmed that his team is spearheading the construction of the City Hall as part of Senator Chie’s legislative initiatives in Grand Kru.
“The project will span 113 feet by 70.5 feet, featuring multiple offices, bathrooms, and a large hall with a platform for discussions and community events,” Mr. Fallah disclosed.
He assured residents that the project would be completed within four months and subsequently handed over to Senator Chie.
Fallah highlighted Marine Construction Company’s Inc., Liberia, track record, noting that the firm is currently constructing a basketball court in District 11, Montserrado County, and overseeing the renovation of Digsville Public School, a project sponsored by Majority Block Representative Richard Nagbe Koon.
Residents of Behwan City expressed their gratitude to Senator Chie for the initiative, describing it as a transformative development for the community.
“For years, we have lacked a proper venue for public gatherings. The Methodist Church and the Behwan General Market were the only places available for events, especially during elections and festive seasons,” a resident stated.
Some elders appreciated Senator Chie for the project, noting that the community can now be assured of having its own facility built by a lawmaker.
The construction of the City Hall marks a significant step toward enhancing local governance and providing essential facilities for the people of Grand Kru County.
