He has served various positions within LIS, ranging from Administrative Assistant, Special Assistant, Chief of Office Staff, Deputy Commissioner General for Administration ( U-300), Acting Commissioner General and now nominated as Commissioner General.
Rufus is considered one of the longest-serving Immigration officers with multiple hands-on experiences for the betterment of the LIS.
Since his preferment as acting Commissioner General, officers of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) have lauded him for his tremendous efforts geared towards the improvement and betterment of the officers of LIS.
According to them, Elijah Rufus understands issues confronting the forward match of immigration officers because he is one of them.
The nomination of Rufus is subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate and when confirmed, he will take up from where Steve Zargo ended and lead the LIS in enforcing immigration laws, securing national borders, and implementing reforms within the service.
The Liberia Immigration Service plays a crucial role in maintaining national security and facilitating legal migration.
President Boakai has emphasized the need for competent leadership within the LIS to address pressing challenges, including illegal border crossings and human trafficking.
President’s Boakai move is expected to serve as a reminder to all officials serving in government about their obligations to serve with honor and uphold public trust. It further demonstrates the administration’s stance on promoting integrity and professionalism within the ranks of the government.
As Liberia seeks to improve its governance practices, President Boakai’s actions underscore a growing expectation that public officials be accountable and dedicated to their roles.
The administration has signaled its readiness to enforce these principles, contributing to Liberia’s broader goals of transparent and accountable governance.
