Maryland County District 3 Representative, Austin B. Taylor, has pledged to secure funding to improve health facilities in the Karluway and Barrobo Districts.
Speaking on a local community radio station, Rep. Taylor revealed ongoing efforts to acquire a grant of US$30,000 from the national budget under the Ministry of Health.
The funds are intended to enhance healthcare services at local clinics in his constituency. However, he disclosed that only US$15,000 has been secured so far, pending the passage of the budget.
During an exclusive interview on December 19, 2024, Rep. Taylor highlighted the pressing needs of the Manolu Clinic in Karluway District and the Glofaken Clinic in Barrobo District, describing them as his top priorities during recent budget hearings.
The lawmaker reiterated his commitment to infrastructure development in Maryland District 3, emphasizing health and education as his focal points.
He further announced that discussions with the Ministry of Public Works are underway to identify and implement key projects in the district.
The chairman of the Maritime Committee in the House of Representatives, Rep. Taylor also addressed concerns stemming from a recent fire incident at the Lower House.
He alleged that bottles containing gasoline were discovered in the chambers, raising questions about security and safety.
Amidst these challenges, Rep. Taylor stated that preparations are ongoing to determine a suitable venue for the State of the Nation Address by President Joseph Boakai. The joint chambers, which suffered significant fire damage, remain in a state of disrepair.
In addition to his health sector initiatives, the representative vowed to resolve issues raised by residents of Bonike in Karluway District regarding a newly constructed government school.
The facility reportedly lacks essential teaching materials such as chalkboards, chairs, desks among other. Rep. Taylor promised to ensure the provision of these materials through the District Development Council.
He also addressed concerns over the plight of volunteer teachers in his district, assuring residents that he would advocate for sustainable monthly payments through legislative action.
He underscored the importance of the Ministry of Education hiring qualified teachers before adding them to the payroll. As the year ends, Rep. Taylor reaffirmed his dedication to addressing the needs of Maryland District 3, striving to advance health, education, and development across his constituency.
