Thirty-two Liberian health practitioners have left the country to participate in a two-week seminar on Public Health and Health Standards in Chengdu, located in southwestern China.
The training is expected to run from May 9-22, 2025 while beneficiaries were drawn from various key institutions, including the Ministry of Health Central Office, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), the Liberia Standards Authority (LiSA), the National Food Safety Authority, the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK), Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA), the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), the Division of Pharmaceutical Services/Supply Chain and the National Diagnostic Unit, Complementary/Traditional Medicine Unit, as well as clinical supervisors from all 15 counties.
Fully sponsored by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the seminar is part of a broader strategic partnership between Liberia and China aimed at strengthening Liberia’s healthcare delivery system.
It seeks to introduce Liberian professionals to global best practices and innovations in public health.
During a pre-departure briefing held Monday at the Ministry of Health, Assistant Minister for Curative Services, Teyah Sackie Moore, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to capacity building and international collaboration.
He emphasized that the seminar would provide valuable insights into China’s health system, particularly its innovations and regulatory standards.
Moore encouraged the delegates to comply with local laws during their stay and to absorb knowledge that can benefit Liberia’s health sector.
“Let us go and lift the flag of Liberia higher,” he said.
He further outlined four main areas of collaboration under the partnership: knowledge exchange, health technology, healthcare software applications, and regulatory frameworks.
While in China, the delegates will engage in discussions with Chinese health authorities and tour major health facilities, with the goal of deepening bilateral cooperation and enhancing healthcare outcomes in Liberia.
The Ministry of Health expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government for its continued support to Liberia’s health sector.
In an official statement, the Ministry voiced confidence that the participants will use the training experience to help modernize and strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
Moore concluded by urging the team to represent Liberia with pride and return equipped with innovative solutions to support national health development.
