Prosecution’s 1st Witness Testifies In Gloria Scott Murder Case

By Grace Q. Bryant

Prosecution’s 1st witness, in person of Zion Tarr, on the stand yesterday, in the ongoing former Chief Justice Musu-Scott and others’ alleged Murder case, testified to the court that when he heard the crying from the house, he used a cutlass to break the window bar.

According to him, “I used the cutlass back and started to knock the joining of the short steel and started to knock the cutlass until the steel dropped, while I used my hand to bend the long steel so that the three of them could pass through the window.

He further explained that he joined the Genesis Security Guard Service on February 17, 2023 and was later assigned at the former Chief Justice’s house on February 22.

“When I heard the people crying in the house, I told my friends that people were crying; while looking for where the sound was coming from, I saw Getrude Newton standing at the window calling for help,” he noted.

He continued, “I did not see anyone coming out of the house, so that’s how the community people heard the noise and came with weapons and passed to the back of the house.

When he was asked by cross examination as to who wrote his statements, he answered that, “the police asked me to explain and while I was explaining, the police was writing my statement.

He noted that, “when they came from the house through the window, they started crying and calling for rescue, and some of the community dwellers entered the house through the same window.”

He was also asked by the Court, “Mr. Witness, since it was your first night working, how come that very night you were able to identify who was crying out or who was screaming?”

He then answered, “I got to know them through my colleagues I met there.”
