“Political Terrorism” -Goodridge Described Deaths UP Supporters

By Bill W. Cooper
The standard bearer of the Rainbow Alliance, Reginald B. Goodridge has condemned the recent tragic actions of an unidentified motorist who ran his vehicle into a crowd of jubilant UP supporters at their headquarters, leaving three dead and several injured.
Mr. Goodridge at the same time described the Monday, November 20, incident of motorist as political terrorism which he said should have no place in Liberia, stressing for speedy investigation into the matter.
Late Monday night, the headquarters of the Unity Party (UP) was a scene of terror after it was reported that an unknown man ran into thousands of supporters of the UP who had gathered at the party’s headquarters to celebrate their election victory.
According to report so far, three persons lost their lives during the incident, while f8ve were on critical list with several of them sustaining serious and minor injuries which include bruises, broken ribs, head cut and spring legs among others.
But Goodridge, in a statement issued yesterday in Monrovia, said that some Liberians are denying the results of the presidential elections through acts of sporadic violence, but warned that no amount of violence will change the outcome of the elections.
According to him, Liberia is now the darling of the international community at the moment for demonstrating the maturity of true democracy through the peaceful conduct of the October elections and the manner in which the results were accepted by President Weah, who lost the elections.
He said that those who are still denying the results of the elections should follow the fine example of President Weah, who was brave and wise to concede defeat with dignity despite the final results were still being held by the NEC.
Mr. Goodridge then called on President Weah to go one step further to put the CDC house in order for the sake of the country’s peace and reconciliation process following a heavily contested race.
He also urged authorities of the Liberia National Police to conduct a speedy investigation into the incident and take the necessary steps to allay the fears of the Liberian people and reduce post-elections tension in the public.
Meanwhile, Goodridge has extended condolences to President-elect Joseph N. Boakai, officers and members of the UP Alliance, as well as the families of the victims who lost lives and limbs in the unfortunate vehicle attack.
