The Liberia National Police (LNP) are investigating a 38-year-old man for attempting to sell his biological son in Pleebo City, Maryland County.
Suspect Joshua B. Odarbeh admitted during a police investigation that he attempted to sell his son to a local businessman in Pleebo.
He made the remarks during an interview at the police station on March 20, 2025.
According to the alleged suspect, he had a text message exchange with a local businessman named Abraham Weah, commonly known as DJ Cassava Leaf, regarding the sale of his 11-year-old son, Prosperous Odarbeh.
Meanwhile, suspect Joshua B. Odarbeh, a resident of Garraway, Grand Kru district 1, told reporters and police investigators that he decided to sell his son because he believed the child was involved in witchcraft.
He further stated that Abraham Weah, commonly known as DJ Cassava Leaf, asked him to come to Maryland County to finalize the transaction.
However, a text message conversation between the duo, which was presented as evidence, revealed the following exchange:
Odarbeh: “I have an eleven-year-old boy. He is my son. I am offering him for business. I need some money.”
DJ Cassava Leaf: “What do you mean by that, bro?”
Odarbeh: “I want to trade.”
DJ Cassava Leaf: “This is not a phone conversation. Come to Pleebo so we can discuss this better. Leave the boy there and come to Pleebo. Take a bike, but the fare should not be more than 1,500 LRD. Come over whenever you get the chance.”
Suspect Odarbeh described his action as a “satanic manipulation,” expressing regret over the situation and labeling it as demonic.
Odarbeh claimed that his son had confessed to being a wizard and admitted to causing misfortunes in the family, including his father’s unemployment.
Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police have invited Abraham Weah, a.k.a. DJ Cassava Leaf, for questioning regarding the allegations made against him by suspect Odarbeh.
