The Ministry of Health (MoH) in collaboration with Partner in Health Liberia, officially broke grounds for a duplex valued at nearly half a million United Stated dollar at the Pleebo Health Center.
This project launched on November 1, 2024, aimed at enhancing working conditions for health workers and improve emergency care in the region.
The administrator of the Pleebo Health Center, Garrison Sayor, emphasized the vital role Partner in Health has played in supporting the facility since its transition from Mercies to Pleebo Center Health in 2015.
He noted that the existing annex, which serves pregnant women and houses the Emergency Room, was developed under a partnership with the government to strengthen healthcare services in Maryland County.
Sayor highlighted the pressing issue of inadequacy of staff lounge, which has persisted for over a decade.
He believes this lack of accommodation affects health workers’ availability during late hours and complicates emergency situations.
“The absence of a staff lounge poses a serious threat to patients in critical conditions,” he stated, underscoring the importance of constructing the new duplex for health workers.
The project is expected to take 52 weeks to complete, with the apartments designed to serve as call rooms for on-call staff, particularly those working late shifts.
The groundbreaking ceremony drew local health leaders and community members, showcasing strong support for the initiative.
Sayor also announced that once the duplex is completed, the Pleebo Health Center will begin operations for some medical cases within Pleebo Sodoken Statutory District.
He added that the health center is now equipped with two medical doctors to address various health issues in the community.
In conclusion, Administrator Sayor expressed pride in the facility’s recent recognition by the World Bank as one of Liberia’s best-performing health facilities under the performance-based financing project.
During the ceremony, community members expressed their gratitude to the Government of Liberia and the Partner in Health family for the new project, which promises to significantly enhance local healthcare resources.
