Orange Liberia has inaugurated its second Digital Center Club, a US$120,000 investment aimed at fostering digital literacy and innovation, on the campuses of the William V. S. Tubman University.
Speaking at the launch on March 28, 2025, in Harper City, Maryland County, Orange Liberia’s Senior Manager, Zaza Mulbah, emphasized the project’s significance, attributing its success to strong partnerships and unwavering commitment.
“This initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration,” Mulbah stated. “It would not have been possible without the collective efforts of individuals and organizations such as GIZ and the Orange Foundation.”
The facility, designed to enhance technological skills among students, is equipped with two dedicated learning spaces—a coding lab and a co-working space. These rooms are outfitted with state-of-the-art computers and other digital learning resources to support training in digital analysis, web development, app development, and other IT-related fields.
Mr. Mulbah noted that Orange Liberia first visited Maryland County in February 2024 to lay the groundwork for the project’s implementation. Furthermore, he said the initiative also aligns with the company’s broader commitment to youth empowerment and digital education across Liberia.
In addition to providing local students with advanced training, the program offers an international dimension. Outstanding participants will have the opportunity to compete in the Orange Summit Challenge, a six-month global initiative where students can win up to US$25,000.
William V. S. Tubman University President, Dr. Olu Menjay, hailed the project as a milestone in the institution’s ongoing efforts to prioritize research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
“As president, I vowed to create opportunities that prepare our students for the global digital economy. This partnership with Orange Liberia is a major step toward fulfilling that promise,” Menjay remarked.
He urged students to make full use of the center, highlighting the university’s broader efforts to forge collaborations with institutions specializing in human development and digital education.
Dr. Menjay also revealed that he was inspired by the success of Orange Liberia’s first digital lab at Cuttington University, which he learned about through a social media video. That inspiration led to discussions with the company about extending the program to Tubman University.
Expressing appreciation to Orange Liberia, Dr. Menjay lauded the initiative for providing essential tools to foster research, innovation, and entrepreneurship among students.
“This facility will not only bridge the digital divide but also equip our students with the skills necessary to compete on an international level,” he added.
At the same time, he noted that with the launch of this new Digital Center Club, Orange Liberia continues to expand its footprint in education, furthering its mission to equip young Liberians with the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The program held on the main campus has bought together local stakeholders of Maryland including the local leadership of the Williams VS Tubman University Students Association and residents from across the county.
