Open Gov Week Applause Justice
Korkpor Before Retirement

The Open Gov week celebration has recognized the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia for outstanding contribution to the Justice System.
The open government partnership said Justice Korkpor has availed himself to promotion of opening government at the level of the Judiciary where he is serving as head of that entity.
According to the Chairperson on the Steering Committee of the Open Gov Celebration, the week for open government is observed from the 16 to the 20 of May each year.
Atty. Daniel Gayedyu said this year opened the Gov Week celebration held over the weekend was intended to focus on the role played by reformers, doers and agents in the OGP countries around the world.
He added that the Open Government Partnership Secretariat in Liberia is seeking to promote transparency, accountability and peace among other factors that will put the country on par with other developing nations in the global village.
According to him, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia has shown some level of commitment to important points set up the National Action Plan that should be applauded.
“He has distinguished himself as a willing OGP reformer. He has ensured the active participation of his entity at the OGP and on several occasions he has availed himself personally to participate in OGP activities,” Gayedyu said.
Atty. Gayedyu disclosed further that Justice Korkpor currently remains the most responsive and receptive head of entity under National Action Plans.
He stressed the needs for citizens and civil society more inclusive in to the Governance process of the country to secure the trust of the people as a way to maintain transparency and accountability in the public sector.
He maintained that the Open Government Partnership crafted the National Action Plans to aid the developmental agenda of the country at all levels but implementation remains challenging.
“The level of implementation under the current National Action Plan has to improve. Each national action plan has been a transformative tool with preselected prescriptions for governance issues that are still challenging to us today,” Atty. Gayedyu emphasized.
CENTAL Boss, Anderson Miameh, serving as panelist for the official celebration at I-Campus in Monrovia said, every sectors around the world need to demonstrate openness in operation to have everyone giving account to each other.
Director Miameh intimated that the involvement of the public is the doing of key legislation as to inform certain political decision could be cardinal while laws like the witness protection bill, whistle blower act and others will get into full swing.
The Center For Transparency and Accountability Executive Director added that there have to be transparency among local and national leadership, as well as the various entities responsible to implement the workings of central government.
