In an effort to vigorously combat ongoing illicit fishing in Liberian waters as well as issues affecting its Coast environment here, the group dubbed “Conservation International Foundation (CIF)” has handed over to the Management of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture (NaFAA) several items to curtail the happening on yesterday in Monrovia.
The donation among other things is aimed at combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) Fishing as well as Environmental issues affecting the Coastal communities in Liberia.
During the presentation of some of the items handed over on yesterday, Dr. Peter G. Mulbah who is the Country’s Representative Conservation International Foundation, said as partner of the NaFAA and efforts to strengthen the working of NaFAA, donated the following, 20 mini-Camera (waterproof), same quantity of memory cards, eight GPS waterproof Laptops, 24 pieces of tablets, 24 power bank, rain boots HD, and rain gears HD estimated at US$3,716.50. The donation of the items brought together officials of government as well as officials of the Management of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture (NaFAA) at its Headquarters on Bushrod Island On Thursday.
In response to the donation on behalf of Madam Emma Metieh Glassco, Director General of NaFAA, Augustine Manoballah, NaFAA’s Deputy Director General for Administration, thanked CIF for the support to NaFAA with a promise to use the items donated wisely.
Mr. Manoballah said though the institution desires more of the items donated assured that it will be used for the intended purpose with a passionate plea to upsurge the donation during the next gesture in the not too far distant.
He added that NaFAA already has a structure geared towards IUU and, “This support is intended to enhance what we have to prepare us adequately to ensure that we can be on top of this issue to prevent people from exploiting our resources.”
“ SO, we can assure you that these items that you donated today, will be adequately used for the intended purpose and we will live in line with the agreement as signed and make sure that in the next donation; we get something far bigger than this,” he concluded.
