Local Leaders Asked To Hold Town Hall Meetings On Referendum

Government has mandated local leaders nationwide to begin holding town hall meetings by creating awareness on the pending referendum scheduled for next Tuesday, December 8.
It said that local officials like County Superintendents, Statutory District Superintendents, Commissioners, Paramount, Clan and Town Chiefs should create massive awareness on the referendum.
State for Presidential Affairs Minister, Nathaniel McGill said on the state-owned radio ELBC Monday, 30 November in Monrovia, that local leaders should hold town hall meetings daily ahead of the referendum.
He said every Liberian is a stakeholder therefore the need for locals to carry out massive and communities’ awareness by telling the people to vote yes to all of the propositions.
“We want those Liberians residing and born abroad but wanting to come home and take up citizenship to do so for the growth and development of the country,” McGill noted.
He believes that the need to reduce the tenures of the President and Representatives as well as the Senator cannot be overemphasized as Liberia is the only country within the sub-region with 6 and 9 tenures for elected public officers.
