The Liberia National Police (LNP) have clarified that at no time was live bullet discharged in the Bea Mountain Mining area of Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County, as reported.
According to the Police, due to the failure of protesters to disperse after series of constructive efforts to have them remove blockades from entrances of the mining facility, the officers were left with no alternative, indicating that the use tear gas is a conventional means of dispersing any group that refuses to adhere to lawful instructions.
No major injuries were sustained as the result of dispersing the violent protesters but it was reported that the vehicle of the Inspector General of Police was attacked with stones thereby crashing the windshield while a vehicle of the Bea Mountain Company was also set ablaze by the protesters.
Meanwhile, calm is said to have been restored after days of protest over demands from the protesting residents.
Three persons have been arrested, detained and are undergoing Police investigations pending prosecution.
Currently, negotiations are undergoing by Traditional Leaders and some Heads of the Liberia National Police as calm has been restored in the Bea Mountain Company. This engagement has resulted to citizens going through their normal business in the County.
However, the Liberia National Police has with immediate effect disrobed and subsequently turned over one of its Officers of the Saclepea, Nimba County Police detail identified as Patrolman Momodu Dassen to the Professional Standards Division (PSD) for alleged Police brutality against Christian Dahn, 19yrs who was accused of receiving LD2,000 for a piece of work, but failed to do said job.
Meanwhile, the Maryland County Police Detachment through its woman and Children Protection Section is presently investigating a man identified as Henry Nyemah a resident of Happer City, Maryland county for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 2:00AM.
Police investigation established that suspect Nyemah is a motor biker ridder who was hired by the victim and her friend to carry them to New Kru Town but intentionally diverted them to waahodo Town which made them afraid as they started crying and later jumped from the bike.
Police probe further revealed that when they fell down from the bike, her friend ran away and the suspect grabbed the victim and forcibly had sex with her and ran away leaving his motorbike on the scene, but was later arrested.
The victim was rushed to a medical facility for medical treatment, while investigation continues
The Liberia National Police further launched a full-scale investigation into a shooting incident that took place in the Palm Farm community, Dixville.
It was reported that, on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 9:30AM, that a gun shot was heard around the Palm Farm community in the Dixville Township.
Based upon said information, a team of investigators was dispatched to the scene and arrested suspect Rufus Master Quaye along with a single barrel pistol.
During Police investigation conducted, it was established that suspect Quaye went at the resident of Mr. James Fayiah and told him that he has a single barrel short gun for sale. While in conversation behind the victim’s window, he (victim) overheard and decided to see who they were.
Accordingly, when victim Obenson N. Kollie saw the weapon, he tried to find out whether the suspect was a Law Enforcer. In the process, suspect Rufus Quaye immediately discharged the weapon which resulted to the victim sustaining severe wounds on his right hand.
Meanwhile, victim Obenson N. Kollie has been taken to the Zogbo clinic for treatment while suspect Rufus Master Quaye is being detained at the Headquarters of the Liberia National Police undergoing investigation.
