The Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA) is expected to conduct a one-day training workshop on Pharmacovigilance on today, April 17, 2025, in Gbarnga, Bong County.
The event will be held at the C.B. Dunbar Comprehensive Hospital Conference Hall, something they said is part of the Authority’s ongoing mandate to strengthen Liberia’s National Pharmacovigilance System.
The LMHRA officials revealed that the training is intended to enhance the capacity of healthcare professionals in areas such as pharmacovigilance, Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting, and medicine safety monitoring.
They further noted that 30 health practitioners from the various health facilities across Bong County are expected to participate in the program.
Dr. Margaret Massaquoi of the Pharmacovigilance (PV) Unit, Dr. Sancee Gray, Manager of the Medicines Information Unit, and Dr. Humphrey B. Taylor, Assistant Manager of the same unit at LMHRA, emphasized the significance of the upcoming training that it will help strengthen and empower the health professionals.
“This initiative forms part of LMHRA’s broader efforts to promote public health through the regulation and monitoring of medicines and health products in Liberia,” they added.
Dr. Massaquoi, Dr. Gray, and Dr. Taylor will be trained in a special area, including an introduction to pharmacovigilance and its importance, Identification and reporting of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), Proper use of ADR notification forms and digital reporting systems, and the roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals in ensuring medicine safety.
They believe that improving the knowledge and reporting practices of healthcare professionals will contribute significantly to reducing the risks posed by unsafe or counterfeit medications in the market in Liberia.
They made the statement in an interview with a local radio station in Gbarnga, Bong County.
