The political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander B. Cummings says Liberia’s future is not buried in the past and that traveling the same road and doing the same thing over and again, will never lead the country to a new destination.
In a special address to the nation, Thursday June 8, the ANC’s political leader said, “Change is hard, but continuing as we are doing to ourselves, or going backward, will only make Liberia’s problem worse.”
He diagnosed that Liberia needs bold changes in vision, policy and leadership to win international trust and attract investment to create jobs and opportunities for Liberians.
“We need the international community to trust us not to steal, disobey our own laws, and manage what we have more accountably and transparently,” Cummings said
He said in order to alleviate the massive suffering and worsening economic conditions, change is must, requiring all Liberians to put love of country above love for party.
He reflected on his experience working in other African countries and also the United Kingdom and the United States, saying, Liberia can be different, bounce back and achieve economic prosperity by raising expectation, setting higher national goals and working harder to achieve them.
“Many of you continue to hear me say that we are too rich to be poor. It’s really true. Things can be better for all Liberians. Our children should be able to find jobs upon graduation after their parents sacrificed themselves, some selling like my mother did to send their children to school,” Mr. Cummings recalled.
He said Liberians who are old and retired don’t have to be beggars and to feel abandoned by the country they have served for many years and stated that retired civil servants should be cared for as respected senior citizens, after years of service to our country.
Change is a must, not for us, but for Liberian mothers and fathers who continue to do the best they can, sometimes overworked and overburdened by the things they must do to survive,” he said.
He assured a Cummings administration will institute major reforms to make life better, and would prioritize Liberian success in all spheres of life including business, sports, music and other forms of artistry.
The ANC Political Leader reaffirmed his promise and commitment when elected as president to work harder to ensure the success of Liberians, a major player in the economic development of their country.
