Serious construction work of the Transit Center that is expected to host numbers of Liberian refugees from Ghana in the coming days is said to be ongoing in the Township of Johnsonville.
The Transit Center which is being constructed by the Liberian Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) cost is at US$40,000, as it is expected to host over 800 family heads.
Speaking to a team of journalists during a tour of the site over the weekend, LRRRC Executive Director, Rev. Fetus Logan, disclosed that the center will have a registration center, a verification center and a meal site for the returnees.
He pointed out that upon their return, the returnees will be only transited to the center just one week before being reintegrated into their counties of origin or of their desire.
The LRRRC boss also disclosed that upon their return, the returnees, most of who have resided in Ghana for 30 years or more will be given a special resettlement package and where need be, be absorbed into different system depending on their skills and knowledge.
“They will be staying here for just one week. We have contracted a Liberian firm to carry on this project and this will be completed within the next two weeks,” stated Rev. Logan.
Apart from Ghana, Rev. Logan indicated that Liberia does not have its citizens in any country as refugees for now.
He then called on Liberians and organizations to open up their hands in welcoming their brothers and sisters back home.
