Liberia, Sierra Leone Forge Stronger Maritime Ties

The Commissioner/CEO of the Liberia Maritime Authority Neto Lighe paid a courtesy visit to the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA), signaling a renewed push for enhanced regional cooperation in the maritime sector.

During the high-level meeting in Freetown, Commissioner Lighe met with the Executive Director of the SLMA, Daniel Kaitibie, to discuss shared challenges and opportunities in the maritime domain.

Kaitibie highlighted Sierra Leone’s interest in learning from Liberia’s extensive experience as a leading global maritime nation.

He stressed the potential for collaboration in key areas such as information sharing, marine environmental protection, and broader maritime activities.

“We are seeking collaboration with Liberia due to its reputation as a major maritime nation. Sierra Leone can benefit from Liberia’s wealth of experience and enriched maritime history,” he stated.

Commissioner/CEO Cllr. Lighe, in response, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized Liberia’s commitment to initiatives that strengthen its maritime industry and foster regional partnerships.

Both countries agreed to establish a joint technical team to explore and implement cooperative projects aimed at enhancing their maritime capacities.

Commissioner Neto Lighe visit is seen as a significant step towards cementing regional maritime ties and advancing sustainable maritime practices.
