Liberia Kickball Federation (LKF) officially commenced its 2025 league season on Saturday, March 8, following a L$2.7 million sponsorship agreement with the National Lottery Authority (NLA).
The deal, signed on March 7, marks the first major financial support from a government entity since the sport’s establishment in Liberia in 1994.
This year’s league features 18 clubs in the first division and 20 in the second division. Newly promoted teams in the first division include Margibi County champions Destiny Girls KC, United Angels KC, and Montserrado-based Somah KC.
As part of the agreement, the league has been renamed “The National Lottery Authority National Kickball League,” replacing its previous title, the Liberia Kickball Federation National League. The 2025 season is being held under the theme “Our Game, Our Heritage.”
The opening matches were held at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Paynesville, featuring several games in both divisions.
The sponsorship deal, amounting to L$2,735,000, will be disbursed in three installments to support the development and promotion of kickball in Liberia. Speaking at the signing ceremony, NLA Director General Reginald Anthonio Nagbe reaffirmed the entity’s commitment to supporting sports and urged LKF leadership to ensure the funds are used effectively. He also encouraged the inclusion of more women in the federation’s leadership.
LKF President Emmanuel Surprise Whea welcomed the sponsorship, describing it as a significant boost for the sport, which has struggled with funding and infrastructure challenges. He called on other organizations to follow the NLA’s example in supporting women’s sports in Liberia.
Vision Sisters KC and Ask Sisters II enter the new season as defending champions in the first and second divisions, respectively.
With the NLA’s sponsorship, the 2025 kickball season is expected to be one of the most competitive in recent years.
