The team leader on the pitch for Discoveries Sports Academy, Johnathan Freeman, has opened his goal account in the Liberia Football Association’s National Second Division League.
The New Boys in the Second Division battled against Junior Professionals Football Club at the Tusa Field in Gardnerville in their season opener, where the wonder kid secured a win for the Legacy Team before home fans.
After 87 minutes of an intense footballing encounter, with both teams exerting an incredible amount of energy, the DSA skipper decided the tie with a clever finish, to help his team bag all three points.
From the halfway point of the park, Cephus Gebro cleverly managed to connect his resourceful playmate, at a point where many thought that the match would end in a goalless draw. The assist from Gebro and goal for Freeman have inducted the DSA duo into the 2023/2024 season record database.
The lad’s first goal in the Second Division handed a first win to coach Akin Baryogar in the day one fixture.
It shows prospects to many that the promotion of DSA to the National League could be rewarding to the many athletes who are being featured by the clubs.
All through his presence in the squad for the Discoveries Sports Academy, Johnathan Freeman has been a very essential player in making the team achieve many accomplishments for the past five to six years.
Freeman has been featured in the national youth programs which led to several travels on youth football duties in the region and other parts of the world.
Freeman previously played in the Liberia Football Association’s National Third Division Promotional Playoffs in Monrovia, scoring the highest goals in the competition.
As captain of the then Third Division club, he provided the needed results for DSA to emerge as Champions of the 2023 National Playoffs, to gain promotion to the National Second Division League at the LFA.
His introduction to the top tier places him as a major contender to other top players during the 2023/2023 league season, because of his incredible form exhibited over the past years.
