Gov’t Senior High Schools Top WASSC in Ganta.

Several public senior high schools operating in Bain- Garr District topped the west African Secondary School Certificate (WASSC) administered in the county with few private institutions in Ganta , Nimba County.There are ten private senior high schools with three public high schools operated by the Government through the Ministry of Education in Bain- Garr schools district which include John Wesley Pearson High, Francis Marweah High and John Wesley Pearson Extension Senior High in Ganta, Nimba County.
Out of 108 students of Francis Marweah High School who sat the examination, 107 came out successfully, while J. W. Pearson’s 330 students who sat the examination, 327 passed, thereby bringing pride to the public schools in Nimba County.
The Principal of the John Wesley Pearson Extension High, Nya Vahn, disclosed that 85 students made a successful pass in the examination while 59 performed poorly.
The three senior high schools are Government sponsored by ministry of education within the Nimba schools system in Nimba County.
Principal Nya Taylor Guanue, said the Ministry of Education study class greatly enhanced the students in the process and called on the Government to continue in the following year.
“We, the school principals were very worried about the (WASSC) but my school did well in the national examination with 85 pass while 59 failed at the J. W. Pearson Extension,” Principal Nya Vahn explained.
When contacted, the District Education Officer (DEO), Abel Legay, said that he controls three senior public high schools that are operated by Government through the Ministry of Education within Nimba Schools System.
Several private senior high schools such as Ganta United Methodist High, Messiah Christian High and St. Lawrence Catholic High never performed well to the expectation of the public.
“The Geoland Senior High School which is partly private and government institution sent 70 students with 69 passing successfully,” said DEO Abel Legay.
Since the release of the WASSC result in Ganta, many of the school principals whose students performed poorly are alleged be shying away from the public to avoid the many embarrassing questions surrounding the poor performance of their students in the national examination.
