The Liberia National Police (LNP) yesterday sent to the Monrovia City Court, a 31-year-old man, identified as Nipay Teddy Karpeh (aka Raso Daso), for allegedly disseminating nude videos of two females on social media after they refused to give the defendant the money he demanded.
Defendant Karpeh was charged with disseminating obscene materials, Criminal Coercion, and Disorderly Conduct, in violation of Chapter 18 subchapter 18.7, Chapter 14 subchapter 14.27 and Chapter 17 subchapter 17.4 of the Revised Penal Law of Liberia.
According to police charge sheet, on May 2, 2024, a special investigation unit received defendant Karpeh for investigation, predicated upon a complaint filed against him by victims, Gifty N. Williams and Janet Bright, for posting their nude photos and videos on social media.
The defendant was acquainted with his constitutional rights; he was represented by Cllr. Juah Bestman where he was investigated and subsequently charged.
Police said, based upon the complaint, a team of investigators headed by Inspector Alex G. Neewray, was constituted to probe into the merit of the case.
The complaint was officially booked at the Crime Services Division charge of Quarters (RANCH) to await the arrival of defendant Karpeh from Dubai.
The investigation received copies of the photos and videos for analysis while the defendant’s particulars, including his photographs, were shared for possible arrest.
On Saturday, May 11, 2024, defendant Karpeh arrived at the Robert International Airport and he was arrested by officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency and turned over to the Liberia National police.
Victim Gifty N. Williams informed the investigation that she got connected to defendant Karpeh through Facebook in 2016, and afterward, the friendship became serious and they started to call each other on video.
Victim Williams told the police that at one point in time, when Defendant Karpeh called on video while she was naked in the bathroom, the defendant unknowingly video recorded her and kept the video.
According to her, she and defendant Karpeh stopped talking at the end of 2016 because she was getting married to somebody different.
She further asserted that in 2017, she got married and was longer in communication with defendant Karpeh.
She added that in 2021, she was joined in a chat room called “RASO Take Me Way” while she was in Dubai, and in that chat room, a girl she earlier had misunderstanding with posted her nude photo, and it was surprising to her as to how she got the photo.
Accordingly, when she came to Liberia, defendant Karpeh, alias Raso, posted her entire nude video in the chat room, at which time she got to know that the recording of her nude video was done by defendant Karpeh.
Victim Janet Bright, a resident of America represented by her Attorney-in-Fact, Williette N. Kun, informed the investigators that sometimes in 2022, she got connected to defendant Karpeh on a social media platform owned and hosted by a lady called Charlotte Roberts.
According to her, the platform was like a social church, of which she was one of the sponsors, and at a point in time, Raso, who was also part of the platform, started to insult one of the financial and moral supporters of the church, who was a close friend to her, cyber bullying the lady.
The victim’s Attorney-in-Fact narrated that she made several attempts to advise him to stop, but he continued to post disparaging things about the lady and her family.
She asserted that after he refused all the pieces of advice she gave him, he started posting her photos, including her nudes, while at the same time raining insults on her.
Meanwhile, defendant Karpeh admitted to the allegations against him in the presence of his lawyer.
According to him, he apologized to victim Gifty and she accepted his apology and he thought the issue was being resolved, but to his surprise, he was informed that victim Gifty took the case to the police.
He however denied having any interaction with victim Janet Bright or exposing her nudes; instead, he reported Janet to CPS for doing nudes and further informed the investigation that Janet was the person who posted his family’s photos on her blog page, as well as his nude.
Meanwhile, the defendant has been forwarded to prison.
