Fmr Montserrado Supt. Kpan Arrested

The former Superintendent of Montserrado County and ex-Vice Standard Bearer of the Liberian National Union (LINU), Madam Grace Kpan, has been formally arrested and charged with criminal mischief in connection with the destruction of private properties valued at over US$241,450.
Madam Kpan was arraigned before the Monrovia City Court after residents of the Tweh Farm Community, led by complainant Benson Kun, filed a legal complaint.
Court documents allege that on April 12, Madam Kpan ordered yellow machine operators to demolish homes in the area, causing damages estimated at US$83,795. and US$157,655. respectively totaling US$241,450.
A writ of arrest issued by the court authorized police officers to apprehend Kpan and the unidentified machine operator.
The document, signed under the authority of Liberia, states that the destruction of property is in violation of the statutory laws of Liberia and constitutes a breach of peace.
Under Liberian law, criminal mischief refers to the intentional or reckless destruction or defacement of another person’s property without their consent.
The seriousness of the charge depends on the extent of damage involved, which in this case crosses the threshold of a felonious-level offense.
As of now, it remains unclear whether bail has been granted or when will a full trial commence.
Court authorities have yet to release further statements regarding the ongoing investigation or the fate of the alleged yellow machine operator involved in the incident.
