Father Henry Jackson Honored Laity of The Year …As Methodist Church Observes Annual Laity Day

The Monrovia Board of Laity of the United Methodist Church in Liberia on Sunday, October 27, honored Father Henry Jackson as the Laity of the year 2019-2020 at the E. Harding Smythe United Methodist Church on the Old road.
The annual District Laity Day which usually brings together honorees from the various Methodist churches in Monrovia was celebrated as efforts aimed at rewarding faithful and committed members for their meaningful contributions to the church in the year under review.
This year’s annual District Laity Day’s occasion seek to honor 25 past and present honorees of the Monrovia District Board of Laity from 1993 up to 2020.
The guest preacher, Jotoria Garkpee, speaking on the theme, “The Quality that gives a Man Honor,” cautioned the church members to do away with mere gossip which has the propensity to bring about division in the church and encouraged them try to exhibit love to each other as well as follow the example of the Centurion in the Bible who brought himself down to the level of everyone irrespective their titles or positions in society.
Delivering what was described as Laity Day Message; Miss Garkpee called on the church to desist from dwelling on the negative aspect of one’s behavior, instead work harder to strengthen their brethren
Meanwhile, the Monrovia District Laity Day 2019-2020 honoree, Father Jackson, thanked the church for bestowing such honor upon him and expressed his gratitude to several individuals for the motivational role they play in showcasing him to the entire Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Father Jackson served as lifter of the year, Father of the year, Laity of the year, among others at the E. Harding Smythe United Methodist Church. “Without the help of these individuals I would just be warming the benches.” He stressed.
“E. Harding Smythe is a loving Church and the spirit of God is moving in this church. Use what you have now to make your gain. Get closer to God and he will always save you,” he emphasized. The honoree therefore encouraged the church members to stop complaining but work harder and look up to God.
