The former President of the Liberian National Bar Association, Cyril Jones, has called on residents of that county to elect people with integrity instead of hungry politicians.
The senior member of the Grand Cape Mount County Bar made the remarks when he responded to the Judge’s charge on November 11,2024 in total disappointment over the manner in which those representing Grand Cape Mount County are behaving at the Legislature.
According to Cllr. Jones, when the country’s budget is debated, huge portions of it goes to the Legislature and Executive branches of government and afterward, they accused each other.
“We must elect people who have credibility, people with good characters and integrity “and stop electing people who do not know anything both off heads and lawmaking but rather money eaters he added.
The former Liberian National Bar Association president further told the gathering that the Liberian government needs to provide access to Justice by providing the necessary funds its needs.
“Imagine the House of Representatives is on a standstill and who are those suffering the pinch?” it is us, the citizens,” Jones told Cape Mountainians.
Cllr. Jones also commented on jury management issue where one group of juries is recycled almost every term of court due to lack of support to the Judicial Branch of government.
“Even the prosecutor and public defenders need support to do their work efficiently “he concluded.
Judge Joe S. Barkon of the Second Judicial Circuit Court in the port city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County released 24 pre-trial detainees from the Upper Buchanan Central prison after the November Term of Court opening on November 11,2024.
The inmates were released due to their prolonged detention for 2 years plus without trial.
