The reign of Determine Girls in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Upper Women’s Division continues, as the Monrovia-based powerhouse clinched their fifth consecutive championship title, cementing their status as the undisputed queens of Liberian women’s football.
Over the weekend at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex Practice pitch, Determine Girls sent a powerful statement to the rest of the league, thrashing Bushrod Queens 8-1 in a dominant performance.
The victory was more than just another win in their seasonal performance. It was considered as a sweet revenge against the only team to handed them a defeat this season.
Guinean international Bountou Sylla led the charge, netting four goals to ensure the champions celebrated in style.
With the win, Determine Girls not only secured the championship but also walked away with a US$20,000 cash prize, courtesy of the Liberia Football Association.
The triumph means they will once again represent Liberia on the continental stage in the upcoming Confederation of African Football Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
Club President Grace Weah expressed her pride in the team’s achievements and reaffirmed her commitment to seeing Determine Girls excel on the African stage.
“We are not just going to participate; we are going to compete. I am dedicating my life to making sure we finish among the top two in Africa,” Weah stated.
One of the central reliance to Determine Girls’ continued dominance is head coach Robert Lartey, who has now guided the team to two major titles precisely the 2022 WAFU Zone A CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers and now the 2024/2025 LFA Upper Women’s Division title.
Lartey, a former head coach of the Liberia Senior Women’s National Team, has transformed Determine Girls into a formidable force, emphasizing discipline, teamwork, and skill development.
Beyond club football, Lartey’s influence has also been felt on the national stage. In 2024, he took charge of the Liberia U-17 Boys National Team, preparing them for the WAFU A U-17 Qualifiers, further underlining his versatility and commitment to youth development across the gender divide.
Under his stewardship, the once-dominant Earth Angels, former titans of women’s football, have now taken a backseat, as Determine Girls firmly occupy the summit.
Coach Lartey’s continued success and holistic approach to football development have made him a respected figure in Liberian football.
His latest triumph is not just a personal milestone, but a beacon of hope for the future of women’s football in the country.
