The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) detachment in Nimba County says Melvin S. Togbah, 28, was charged and sent for prosecution for possessing marijuana and codeine drugs.
LDEA investigators disclosed that suspect Togbah was hooked in the border town of Loguatuo while coming from Ghana towards Liberia with the drugs.
According to the LDEA, the drugs comprised of 2.15 kilograms of compressed marijuana with attached value of US$ 2, 000 including 10 bottles of codeine liquid.
“During preliminary investigations, suspect Togbah admitted to ownership of the drugs,” a senior officer of the LDEA disclosed.
When contacted in Sanniquellie, LDEA’s acting commander, Malison Gaylah, confirmed the arrest and detention of suspect Togbah for being possession of illegal drugs.
“Investigators charged suspect Togbah, for being in violation of importation, sale and distribution of control drugs or substances,” LDEA Gaylah intimated.
“Therefore, the suspect was sent to court for being in violation of sections 14. 83; 14. 85; 14. 89; and 14. 93 of the Drugs Law of July 12, 2023,” acting LDEA Commander Gaylah outlined.
According to the acting commander, the LDEA is on the watch and has tightened nearly all the border entries in the wake of the festive season with the aim of cracking down on drugs users, dealers and distributors.
