Bomi County’s chiefs, elders and other local leaders have asked Representative Edwin Melvin Snowe to abandon his senatorial bid in the pending midterm elections scheduled for Wednesday, December 8 and wait for 2023.
According to them, they have decided to support Lahai Lansannah who lost in similar contest to current Senator Morris Saytuma during the 2014 Senatorial Elections when he and his family were reportedly flogged by state security by stripping them nude for alleged “electoral fraud” reported during the tenure of former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
But Snowe who has already received formal communication from the traditional people for discussion on the matter at bar promised to honor their invitation next Wednesday, July 22 instead of this Saturday, July 18 in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.
Snowe had never withdrawn from any contest whether political or not, and it is presumed that in the mass meeting with the chiefs and elders, Snowe is expected to speak out his mind on his senatorial bid and perhaps thereafter announce his candidacy.
“I have responded to the invitation from the traditional people already. Instead of this Saturday, July 18, the meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 22 in Tubmanburg, Bomi County. We have the understanding what is happening and we will speak our minds,” Snowe told this paper yesterday.
Notwithstanding, the county’s wise men and women in their letter to Representative Snowe, urged the lawmaker to await 2023 polls but he must first make good of his campaign promises during last elections which they claimed he has not yet fulfilled for almost 3 years.
They believe Snowe should focus on his present assignment in the National Legislative which they said they have given him to improve their living standard by either creating employment opportunities along with some of his colleagues.
Bomi county senatorial race could be a tough battle with the entrance of Edwin Snowe, Alex Tyler, Sando Johnson and others. While Tyler is planning to make a comeback into government mainly in the national legislative, Snowe wants to be elevated while Sando Johnson also wants to be retained.
The present political atmosphere has divided the county mostly between the old and the young. Many young people seem to favor Snowe because of his generosity towards them while the old people seem to be in sympathy with Tyler and Johnson who are being accused for their alleged failure to help with development the county having served many years in government.
