CDC Cracking?

Monrovia, Liberia –The political marriage that gave birth to the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) is said to be at the verge of a serious collapse.Reports say members of the Coalition have begun expressing disenchantments over what they termed as consistent violation of the agreement that propelled the political marriage within barely two years of its constitutional six years mandate given by the citizens of Liberia.
The Coalition comprised of the Congress for Democratic Change of now President George Manneh Weah; the National Patriotic Party (NPP) of the now exiled former President Charles Taylor and the Liberia People’s Democratic Party (LPDP) of former House Speaker, J. Alex Tyler.
A highly placed sources within the Coalition informed the Inquirer that the NPP and the LPDP have reportedly signed a resolution to back-off from the Coalition due to continuous disregard and diversion of their initial deal.
According our sources, the Congress for Democratic Change’s Standard Bearer President Weah has reneged on relating to the LPDP in terms of employment inclusion and that every recommendation made by the party, as a member of the Coalition is often ignored by those having access to the presidency.
“What would have broken the camel’s back is the preparation of the most recent pending national retreat which was recently postponed due to gas shortage across the country. If we sincerely anticipating to have a national retreat to reconcile our difference as being indicated in the media, don’t you think that every member of the Coalition should have been part of the planning process? Unfortunately, it would be strange to believe that we are not in the know,” an official of the CDC who begged for anonymity.
Our sources said one of the reasons for why they might lead the discussion to disengage from the political marriage would be on the issue of the constant disrespect being shown to the NPP’s Standard Bearer, Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor by the hierarchy of the CDC which has trickled down to some members of media institutions who have continue to exhibit gross disrespect to her thereby denigrating her position as a the second in command of the Coalition.
“Not only that, you read the President of the Liberian Senate’s notes expressing her disappointment and inability to attend public functions due to government’s failure to pay her constitutional benefits as Vice President of the Republic of Liberia; a situation which prompted her action to boycott the opening of the 3rd session of the Legislature,” another source added.
According to the aggrieved members, President Weah and his CDC’s officials have no regards for the political marriage. However, the current internal fracas if not handled in real time, could eventually undercut the Coalition chances in the Special Senatorial elections, some political observers opined.
Meanwhile, one of the advisors in the Coalition who also begged not to be named is warning members of the Coalition to see the outcry from some aggrieved members as early warning signs and take serious caution in helping to curb the ongoing impasse.
