Angie Brooks Holds One-Day Media Engagement

By Precious D. Freeman
The Angie Brooks International Center (ABIC) has ended a day-long dialogue with media entities on Weaning off fake news, Misinformation Before, During and after Elections.
Making the disclosure on Thursday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Cecil Dennis Auditorium Hall, the Establishment Coordinator for ABIC Cllr. Yvette Chesson-Wureh stated that the public depends on the media houses for true reports of information.
She added that media outlets should stop giving the public fake news in order to please their personal politicians, something she termed as damaging the profession.
“If you are working for a politician it doesn’t means that you should use your platform to destroy someone’s character,” ABIC Coordinator warned journalists.
According to her, integrity matters more than collecting money and food from newsmakers, adding that if journalists maintain the integrity, then there are lots of opportunities that will come their way.
Cllr. Wureh maintained that there is nothing like integrity and standing up for what you believe in, adding that it is the responsibility of journalists to keep the peace because Liberia does not have UN peacekeepers any more.
She stressed for journalists to relentlessly respect their profession at all times, because they are all mightier than the President or any Government officials, and remember that ‘the pen is mightier than the sword.’
