Gbarpolu, Rivercess Senators -elect To Be Certificated Today

A joint certification ceremony of the senators-elect of Gbarpolu and Rivercess Counties is expected to take place today at the headquarters of the National Elections Commission, (NEC).
Botoe Kanneh and Willington Geevon Simth retained their victory since the December 8, 2020 senatorial elections amidst the perceived elections irregularities and violent issues raised by their major contenders.
A statement issued on yesterday by the NEC announced that the joint certification ceremony will start at 10:30 A.M. in the James M. Fromayan Conference Hall.
The certification exercise is a mandate from the Supreme Court that the Commission precedes the certification of the senators-elect who emerge as winners in the just ended electoral process.
Meanwhile, following a rigorous request by independent candidate Steve Tequah that prevented the certification of Geevon-Smith, Mr. Tequah withdrew his petition against the process following the recount of the remaining 104 polling places in Rivercess County.
With the certification of Geevon-Smith and Kanneh, the members of the Liberian Senate duly seated will swell to 24 with Nimba, Grand Cape Mount and Sinoe Counties still left to clear their outstanding issues that derived from the December 8 process while Lofa County hangs in an imbalance.
