The Liberia National Police in Nimba is conducting investigation into alleged flogging of several officers of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) in Ganta, Nimba County.
According to the Liberia National Police, four persons have been arrested in connection with the flogging of five officers of the Liberia Immigration Service by a group of men while executing their normal COVID- 19 Lockdown process in Ganta, Nimba County.
The LNP further stated that the suspects are presently behind bar undergoing investigation and will be charged under the law for attacking peaceful State Security Officers to serve as deterrent to would-be people in the county.
The Police have in their custody suspects Emmanuel Barr, Augustine Fayiah, Andrew Kollie and Howah Fayiah respectively.
When contacted officials of the Liberia Immigration Service at Ganta main border, confirmed the incident that several of their officers were flogged by community members living in Nyankorma Quarter in Ganta while enforcing the lockdown COVID-19 mandate in the community.
The senior LI S officer lamented that this is the third time for LIS officers to have come under attack by local residents in the county in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown.
The LIS added that a group of men attacked LIS officers with single barrel guns few weeks ago near Ganta and the single barrel guns were seized from them and turned over to the LNP for investigation but to date, there have been no official statement from the Police regarding the case.
The State of Emergency coupled with COVID-19 lockdown process is totally ignored in Nimba as citizens go about their normal business in the evening hours on motorbikes from town to town in the county.
