The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has suspended its senior collector of customs at the Loguatuo border in Nimba County with immediate effect.
The joint security officers explained that the alleged suspension of senior collector Varnie Bundoo had been circulating since the beginning of October 2024.
According to the officers, the LRA office informed the joint security recently that collector Bundoo has gone to Monrovia to attend an official activity but pointed out, “We the joint security serve as back up for the enforcement of the law and collection of government’s revenue but now, we don’t know who is left in charge of the collectorate if the suspension of Bundo is really true,” the LIS senior officer stated.
LDEA officers also explained that days ago, Collector Bundoo left his border post along with the LRA cashier for Monrovia without telling them what was going on.
Since the beginning of October 2024, there has been a rumor of an alleged tax scandal that linked the LRA office at the Loguatuo border and the report is resonating among residents in that part of the county but, the LRA team remains tight-lipped.
However, LRA’s Communication Director Kaihenneh Sengbeh disclosed the suspension of Bundoo for thirty days without pay.
“As per your inquiry, I can confirm to you that Mr. Varnie Bundoo, our senior customs collector at Loguatuo border in Nimba County has been suspended and forwarded to our professional ethics division. The LRA remains committed to collecting lawful revenue for Liberia in a professional, accountable, and transparent way”, Sengbeh revealed via a mobile phone.
