Over the weekend, the Margibi Sub-Association of the Liberia Kickball Federation held a recognition program for Doris Wilson, a former Margibi County kickball player.
The event took place at the 14th Road Sports Pitch in Kakata during the opening games of the 2023-2024 League Season.
Doris Wilson was awarded a certificate of recognition for her selfless contributions and numerous sacrifices to the sport, particularly her dedication to the Margibi County kickball team.
“On behalf of the sub-association, we present this certificate to Doris Wilson in appreciation of her numerous and selfless contributions to kickball in Liberia, especially Margibi County,” said Roland Michael Tarr Nyumah, Chair of the Sub-Association. “We recognize your leadership skills with the kickball team of Margibi County. Thank you for your service.”
Wilson debuted for Margibi County during the 2007-2008 National County Sports Meet under Technical Director Lawrence and Head Coach Thomas Rean.
It was Coach Rean who introduced Wilson to the prestigious National County Sports Meet, Liberia’s most significant sporting festival.
During her active years, Wilson captained both her club and county teams.
She played for Nassa Green Eagle KC, the only first-division kickball club in Margibi County at the time.
She also represented the Gibi Girls of Margibi County from 2007-2009 and later the Kpatawee Girls of Bong County from 2009-2017, where she concluded her playing career.
Although Wilson did not win a first-place trophy with Margibi County, she led her team to a third-place finish at the National County Sports Meet, defeating Grand Kru County to secure the position.
Former national president of the Liberia Kickball Federation, J. Yourvor Kollie, alias “JY,” presented the Certificate of Honor to Wilson on behalf of the Margibi Sub-Association.
This recognition marks a historic moment as Wilson becomes the first kickball player in Margibi County’s history to receive such an honor from the Sub-Association or the Margibi Sports Association (MSA).
The ceremony highlighted Wilson’s lasting impact on the sport and celebrated her role in promoting kickball in Liberia.
