The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) office in Ganta says 39 drug abusers have been sent to the central prison in Sanniquellie pending court trial.
Commander Thomas Saye explained that the suspects were arrested in the Public Works yard at the St. John River belt in Ganta.
According to LDEA’s Commander Saye, the 39 suspects were arrested during the ghetto raids in Ganta.
“Many of the drug abusers and users are using the St. John River bank as a hideout in Ganta,” Commander Saye disclosed.
The suspects were sent to prison by the magisterial court pending trial in the county.
Speaking on other issues, Saye revealed that the lack of vehicles is hampering the smooth running of the agency.
“No vehicle for operation, and that is creating hardship on the Agency, and we sometimes use motorcycles to transport drug suspects to the court or prison,” Saye disclosed.
Since the beginning of 2023, LDEA has arrested and sent to court, over 100 drug abusers and users involved with drug-related issues.
Ganta is among the fastest growing cities in Nimba, but it is infested with crimes and other criminal related issues.
The City’s Solicitor, Habakkuk Gono, could not be reached via mobile phone as it was switched off up to press time.
